Yuletide 2024

Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you so much for writing for me!

First of all, I want to say that I generally feel like people write best when they are writing things they love! I have some likes and dislikes here, but just know, in general I have very broad tastes. If you have certain kinks and tropes that are especially close to your heart or you are inspired to write and you are nervous about writing them for me, unless I listed them as something I specifically DNW, you have my full blessing. If I didn't list something as a DNW, it isn't a squick for me, even if it's something that is often squicky or triggery for many people. Inversely, just because something isn't on my likes list doesn't mean I won't like it. If you think something is a little out there, just trust me: I will probably love it.

Everything here is just ideas, things I usually like, and starting points, so hopefully something in here inspires you. If you have other ideas or are inspired to go in a different direction, follow your heart. I leave myself in your capable hands.

Also, I am happy to receive treats!

General Likes: historical research and detail, humor, characters of all levels of morals, complicated relationships, happy endings, un-happy endings, small moments, backstory, getting-together, intense feelings and relationships, forced proximity (only one bed, huddling for warmth, etc.), hurt/comfort, pastiche, unusual formats and storytelling, epistolary fic

Smutty and shippy likes: dry-humping, non-penetrative sex, oral sex, clothed or mostly clothed sex, masturbation, first times, hand-jobs and fingering, theesomes and moresome, shame/embarrassment, dubcon and noncon. A past Smut Swap letter with more smutty likes can be found here.

General DNWs: soulmates, wingfic, unrequested alternate setting AUs (i.e. Coffee shop AUs, Regency AUs) (Canon-divergence/fix-its/alternate endings are all fine), asexual/aromantic headcanons, kidfic, tooth-rotting fluff, reader-insert

Smut DNWs: scat, sounding, underage below age 15, maledom/femsub in m/f pairings

1. Clerks (Movies - Smith)
Jay (Clerks Movies)
Silent Bob (Clerks Movies)
Dante Hicks
Randal Graves (Clerks - Smith)

Clerks was the first movie I ever looked up fanfiction for on purpose. I rewatched it this year and discovered that this desire has not gone away! I ship Jay/Silent Bob and Dante/Randal, but feel free to take things in whatever direction you want. Some ideas:

Put those men through some fanfiction classics. What happens if Jay and Silent Bob take a random drug that turns them into girls? What if Dante gets sex pollinated? What if a disgruntled customer casts a bodyswap spell on any combination of them? Pretend dating to try to save face with an ex? Locked in the gas station freezer and forced to huddle for warmth?

Jay/Silent Bob and Dante/Randal are the most obvious ships, but I’d be more than happy to see what happens when you mix it up. What would Jay and Randal get up to? I could see either of them feeling like their respective friendships are too important to jeopardize and looking elsewhere to try to figure out if they are gay or what.

Outsider POV of one of the guys on the other pair. It seems like the four of them see each other almost every day. What is Jay’s take on what Dante and Randal have going on? What is Randal’s read on Jay and Silent Bob?

Jay and Silent Bob’s first scene is one of my favorite introductions of all time. Jay telling Bob unprompted that he is cute and would go down on him (and three other guys) before immediately backtracking. Bob barely reacting to any of this. I would love any kind of exploration into what is going on in Jay’s head, or Silent Bob’s head for that matter. Considering Jay’s “I hate guys! I LOVE WOMEN!” I feel like some kind of sexuality crisis must be going on there. Would love to see that explored!

I have watched other Askewniverse movies, though not all of them. While I would prefer a fic set before or around Clerks, if you want to integrate stuff from later movies as far as character direction or anything, that is totally fine. Don’t worry about contradicting later movies, but also it’s fine if you spoil them as well.

2. Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Hunter S. Thompson
Raoul Duke

I am really into the idea of crossovers with this one. I love Thompson's writing, as seen through his alter-ego Raoul Duke, and just want to hear Duke tell me about what wild experience he is having in the way that only he can. Fear and Loathing in [location of your choice]. I would love a crossover with any canon that you want to really show me the setting of, through the drug-added eyes of our favorite doctor of journalism. There is no need to explain how Duke has ended up where he is, if you don't want, he rarely does anyway. Drop him wherever you want. He is on a space station/in Middle Earth/transported to the Age of Sail, and it is not even the weirdest thing that has happened to him this year. He is here on a journalistic assignment, he is on many drugs, and he is rolling with it, perhaps with his companion Dr. Gonzo.

Some particular settings that I am familiar with and would be happy to see crossed-over: Deep Space Nine (or literally any Star Trek setting), Sunnydale, Middle Earth.

However, it is fine if I am not familiar with your crossover canon. If I’m not familiar, it’ll be a zany tour of a new setting. Sci-fi/fantasy settings seem particularly well-suited, but are by no means necessary. If you have a historical bent, let's explore the historical time and place of your choosing! Even a tropey AU would be fun, so I am fine with alternate setting AUs for this prompt.

Also if you want to write something shippy, by all means, I would be absolutely delighted to see what Raoul Duke/Dr. Gozo slash is like, crossover or not. I do not have any specific prompts, besides a confidence that drugs are involved, that Duke would have some wild things to say about it all, and that I would have fun reading it.

3. Trailer Park Boys
Julian (Trailer Park Boys)
Ricky LaFleur
Lucy (Trailer Park Boys)
Sarah (Trailer Park Boys)

My desire for Trailer Park Boys is canon-typical hijinks with the slashiness turned up. Some possible ideas:

Fake married or fake dating! I can totally see Julian and Ricky getting married for some kind of scheme or scam. Maybe they think it will get them out of some kind of legal trouble? Or maybe it is to get a better trailer only available to married couples? Some kind of benefits fraud? It doesn’t matter if their motivation actually works, in fact, it is probably funnier if it does not. What’s the wedding like? The kiss? What are the vows? Does Ricky think they have to have sex to make it official?

J-Roc is making pornos again, and this time it’s gay porn. Somehow Julian and Ricky are roped in to star.

Julian and Ricky start hooking up while in prison, and now they are out and aren’t sure what happens next. Things are different in prison, so there’s no reason for them to keep hooking up now that they are out, but one of them (ok, probably Ricky) wants to keep it going.

If you want to go a smutty route (which I would be stoked to receive!), I would be totally fine if it is more funny than hot. I am not looking for a perfect romance here, and I’m totally happy if they, for instance, hook up but don’t enjoy it, or date but don’t stay together permanently, or some other ambivalently slashy scenario. I like the tone of the show and whatever they get up to can be as successful as anything they ever get up to. On the other hand, maybe they have a good time! After all, apparently Ricky is good at sex. I would be as stoked to receive a sweaty, stoned PWP as anything else I’ve mentioned.

I have not watched the show comprehensively, and I have seen more of earlier seasons than later ones, but feel free to set fic whenever (or in a nebulous time that doesn’t correspond to any specific time in canon) and don’t worry about spoilers.
