fannish happenings
Jun. 5th, 2019 05:59 pmI am registered for
confabcon and
fanworks! Happy to have some cons to look forward to, and excited to see familiar people and meet new people.
I think probably enough people have written Game of Thrones postmortems that I don't need to write one, but it's kind of where I have been hanging out lately. The show ending has, unexpectedly, reawakened my fannish passion for the show, and even more so the books, which had sworn up and down to myself I only allow to happen if I was ever holding the next book in my hands.
The last time I got big into GoT/ASoIaF was around 2013ish, when I first read the books, so I have been starting a lot of fics, only to slowly get the suspicion that I have been here before. My favorite characters and ships don't seem to have changed much since then, and the big cast of characters has always been good to my multi-shipper heart, though I realized I have more het and femslash ships, and less slash ships, than I typically do (a testament to the volume of female characters, maybe?). And I will always be a little fond towards it, as it gave me my first incest ship with Jaime/Cersei (hey, I didn't make these two beautiful weirdos fuck, they were like this when I got here!). I feel a little like my heart is ignoring the beautiful cat beds of many other canons to curl up in the cardboard box of GoT, but here I am, reading a lot of fic, writing more than I have in a while (I now have three WIPs, and even posted a very small show canon fic), and am considering a re-read.
On a bigger scale, it has been fun watching the collective re-awakening of dormant fannish passion the Good Omens show seems to be having on us all.
