Yuletide 2019: Dear Author Letter

Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you so much for writing for me!

First of all, I want to say that I generally feel like people write the best when they are writing things they love! I have some likes and dislikes here, but just know, in general I have very broad tastes. If you have certain kinks and tropes that are especially close to your heart or you are inspired to write and you are nervous about writing them for me, unless I listed them as something I specifically DNW, you have my full blessing. If I didn't list something as a DNW, it isn't a squick for me, even if it's something that is often squicky or triggery for many people. Inversely, just because something isn't on my likes list doesn't mean I won't like it. If you think something is a little out there, just trust me: I will probably love it.

Everything here is just ideas, things I usually like, and starting points, so hopefully something in here inspires you. If you have other ideas or are inspired to go in a different direction, follow your heart. I leave myself in your capable hands.

General likes: shippy stuff of all varieties (het/slash/femslash), characters of all levels of morals, complicated relationships, happy endings, un-happy endings, small moments, pining, backstory, getting-together, intense feelings and relationships, forced proximity (only one bed, huddling for warmth, etc.), OT3s and other polyshipping variations, hurt/comfort

Smutty likes: dry-humping, non-penetrative sex, masturbation, first times, hand-jobs, bathing/washing, gender stuff, femdom, theesomes and moresome, shame/embarrassment. More details about smutty likes can be found here

DNWs: soulmates, unrequested alternate setting AUs (i.e. Coffee shop AUs, Regency AUs) (Canon-divergence/fix-its/alternate endings are all totally fine), asexual/aromantic headcanons, scat, excessive fluff, Maledom/femsub, kidfic, reader-insert

1. 20th Century Political Debates RPF - Gore Vidal, William F. Buckley Jr.

Prompts: Vidal's response to Buckley calling him a "queer" is a smug, knowing grin and saying "Oh Bill, you are extraordinary". Vidal and Buckley's tension had been growing all through the debate, culminating in the famous "crypto-nazi"/"sock you in the goddam face" exchange. What if Vidal contributed to this tension by seducing Buckley. I think Vidal really shines in his essays, memoirs, and interviews, so I think it would be really fun for this tale of seduction to be "as told by Vidal", perhaps a lost interview? Or bragging at a dinner party? It is honestly completely plausible as something he would have claimed, if not for the ongoing litigation.

Smutty Prompts: If you do want to go the smutty route, well here is what Scotty Bowers has to say (quite a lot in fact!) about Vidal's sexual preferences. Intercrural sex seems very plausible. Apparently Vidal was a fan, and it seems very Classical in a way they both would have been into. That said, I don't have any strong preferences about sex acts or configurations, so if you decide to do smut, go nuts there. Given that this is almost surely hatesex, I can see some fighting-for-the-top. Feel free to lean into the dominance struggle/hatesex/unwanted seduction angle. Dub-con is fine and welcome.

2. Stardust (2007) - Captain Shakespeare

Prompts: I just want to see the further adventures of Captain Shakespeare! I love pirates and all the associated tropes of swashbuckling and daring adventure. I would love to see Shakespeare get a similarly fairytale-y love story and happy ending as Tristan and Yvaine. I am not too picky about who his romance is with. Maybe that wink at the wedding leads to something more with Humphrey! Or maybe his first mate's feelings run even deeper than loyalty. This is definitely my fluffiest and happiest request, regardless of who he ends up with.

Smutty Prompts: I am just going with the obvious one here: cross-dressing. It is one of my great smut loves, so you can't really go wrong. Now that Shakespeare knows that his crew knows about his cross-dressing, he can be even more comfortable doing it. And if he is with someone, I would love it if they find it wildly sexy.

3. The Lighthouse (2019) - Ephraim Winslow, Thomas Wake

Prompts: It's hard for me to think of prompts for this one because this movie is so fresh and weird so really, this one is wide open. I loved the weird psychosexual homoerotic elements, of course, so feel free to lean in to that. Don't be afraid to get extremely weird or dark.

Smutty Prompts: Any variation of "what if they had sex at this point" for almost any point in the film. Some obvious ones that come to mind are that almost kiss during the slow dance (what if they had kissed and it led to something more), what if either of them caught the other masturbating and interrupted them, what if any of the many power struggles had turned more directly sexual, the....dog thing. Absolutely fine receiving non-con/dub-con (in either direction) for this one (also happy to receive something consensual between them in one of their more friendly moments)! With these two, how absolutely disgusting and weird they are is a feature not a bug, so don't feel like you need to shy away from that fact.
